BNP tries out Video services in Biarritz
This photo show the facade of the Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) branch in Biarritz. The establishment signs signal the list of services offered in this branch: “Service B”, automatic teller machines, counters, Videophone and videodisk.
In 1984, Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) carried out a test with fully automated branches at a dozen closed sites without any personnel on site. These were ATMs equipped with an interactive videodisk module offering in the form of questions-answers information about the products offered. The most advanced one was installed in Biarritz, where the cabling policy carried out by France Telecom ( at the time the Directorate-General for Telecommunications) made it possible to connect the videophones through which the customer could dialogue with a consultant at a traditional branch.
The test showed limits both for the customer and for the bank. Consequently it was not expanded.
