Relive the story of the Maison Dorée in six questions

Explanation
A sumptuous restaurant in Paris, the Maison Dorée was built by architect Victor Lemaire in 1841. It is part of a broad neo-renaissance ensemble, the “Cité des Italiens”, which stretches across Taitbout Street, and complements the cultural and political life of the Great Storms.

Founded by Louis Verdier in 1841, Maison Dorée replaced the Café Hardy, which was popular in the 19th century but destroyed in 1838.

The site is for a while abandoned. In 1902, the heart of Parisian life moved to the Opéra Garnier district. Maison Dorée gradually lost its clientele until it closed its doors. A slow decline followed, leading to the permanent closure of the building in 1932.

On 19 May 1972, BNP acquired the building. His project: complete destruction and modern elevation.  This choice is at odds with the wishes of the Prefecture and citizens regarding the restoration and development of old buildings. The BNP must agree to keep the facades in order to obtain the six floors expected and in 1975 the building permit was issued.

It also houses a huge two-storey international markets room. And finally, it offers a place of exposure and cultural life to the French and European heritage.
