In the course of their history, BNP Paribas forerunners have supported numerous industries, participated in the financing of France’s purchases during the First World War, progressively boosted investments after the war as well as reconstruction, and developed major projects such as the Caracas Metro. All these actions contributed to financing the national and global economy.

In the aftermath of the Second World War, French industry and real estate were in a state of disaster. Electricity, the merchant navy, the steel industry, ports… The French government had to relaunch the production of goods and services and rebuild the destroyed national heritage. Given the scale of the needs, it appealed to the banks to mobilise the financial resources necessary to restart the economy.
