Remarkable Figures
The history of the Group is embodied by great bankers who carried out the major projects of the construction of BNP Paribas. But did you know that the passions and initiatives of some employees have made them remarkable figures?
Relive the fate of those who once joined the ranks of our ancestor banks, and not only!

A creation of the BNP Paribas Historical Archives
The big bankers

It was in the nineteenth century that the investment banks and discount counters that were the ancestors of BNP Paribas were born. Two types of banks that will inherit the financial and artistic, sometimes family, cultures of the great bankers who built them.
These personalities will establish and develop our Group thanks to their sense of finance and business, of course, but also with audacity, singularity and ingenuity. Particularities that will also develop in scientific, political, cultural and philanthropic circles.
From the Credit and Deposit Bank of the Netherlands to the National Bank for Trade and Industry, via the Compagnie Bancaire and BNP Paribas Fortis, the great bankers personify our ancestor banks and their values.

Fighters and resistance fighters
During its two centuries of existence, our Group has gone through many crises. The employees of our ancestor banks, but also some of our contemporaries, were confronted with exceptional situations that changed their lives.

Soldiers, fighters, resistance fighters and secret agents : we have found some itineraries of these remarkable figures.

Celebrities

As evidenced by some of BNP Paribas’ emblematic buildings, many artists have participated in their decoration or construction.
But, less known, a few celebrities are hiding in the Group’s workforce.
Among our remarkable figures are writers, poets and musicians who have spent their entire banking careers in our ancestor banks.
We even discover an actor, a temporary stream-jumper, at the National Credit Bank !
